Student Activities

Page 110-111 1-5 will be worked by regular math classes and all of page 110-111 will be completed by the PreAP classes. Have students work individually on the page at their desk. They must have 100% correct work on each problems before moving on to the following problem.

Assess./Evaluations

As each student finishes the practice problems, have them come to my desk to check their work for the correct steps.

Student Activities

 

Talk to students about reasons to solve one-step algebraic equation in real life. For example, 6 boxes of wrenches cost $132. What is the cost of one box of wrenches? Solving the equation 6b=132 for b can help you answer that question. Introduce concepts and vocabulary.

Assess./Evaluations

Ask students to complete practice items 1-4 on page 115 independently or in pairs. Monitor ongoing work.

Student Activities

Talk to students about reasons to solve two-step algebraic equations in real life. For example, Kyle is saving to buy a video game system that costs $250. He has already saved $145 and plans to save $15 each week. In how many weeks will Kyle have saved enough money to buy the video game system?

Review over the POWER UP section on page 116 Have students do A at their tables. Give them approximately 5 minutes to work and check in their groups before going over it at the board.

Assess./Evaluations

Have students work page 117 B alone and come up to check with the teacher for 100% accuracy. Once this is completed they may start on page 117 #1 and #2.

Read To Go page 118 and 119

Talk to students about reasons to solve a word problem algebraically. For examples, it costs $7 for admission to a country fair. It cost $2 to play each game. If your parents gave you $25 for admission and games, how many games can you play? Explain that this word problem can be solved algebraically.

Review over READY TO GO page 118 and WORK TOGETHER page 119

Assess./Evaluations

Page 119 have students do A at their tables. Once finished have students come up to check their work for 100% accuracy.
